Wombling on the Severn

Stu Maddocks aka 'The Womble' has been hammering the whiskers this summer on the Severn. Above is a compilation of some of his successes. Early in the summer Stu busied himself with carp and tench and anything that swam in the stillwaters but as soon as June the 16th arrived he switched to his beloved Severn and the fish have just kept coming. One evening session he managed an incredible 41 Barbel between 3-8lb. That is an incredible catch and he has had a good number of big bags all summer. I Tried last week to get among the barbel with Stu on the River Teme but unfortunately the weather was against us. We arrived early Monday morning and the river looked good although we were aware that heavy overnight rain might effect conditions as the day went on. Added to the overnight rain the heavens opened from late morning and never let up. As Stu sheltered under his brolly i tried to reassure him it was just a 'Sunshower' but the rain just got heavier. I managed a bream of around 4lb as compensation for the lack of Barbel and would have had a nice foto of it if i hadn't dropped the slippery fish just as Stu was about to take the snapshot. Above is a shot of Matt Yarwood who is also a lover of the River Severn and joined Stu for the fish pictured above; No Truck mudguards for Matt lately.
